KZ Hong, President & CEO:
Dr. KZ Hong brings over twenty-five years of extensive experience in leading new product and new technology developments from ideation to commercialization for medical devices, biologics, and health care products. Dr. Hong is responsible for formulating strategies in sales growth, market expansion and working to identify global technology and business opportunities for Tricol Biomedical.
Prior to joining Tricol, Dr. Hong held various senior management positions at Ninova Biomedical Technologies LLC , ArjoHuntleigh, Kinetic Concepts Inc (KCI), RTI Surgical and Baxter Healthcare. He holds a PhD and MS in Macromolecular Science and Engineering, an MSE in Chemical Engineering all from the University of Michigan; an MBA in Finance from Eastern Michigan University; and a BSE in Chemical Engineering from the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan.
Simon McCarthy, Science & Technology Fellow:
Dr. McCarthy brings over 25 years of research experience in chemistry and holds multiple worldwide patents in the chemistry and medical device field. He joined HemCon in 2001 as one of the primary founders and inventors of the underlying technology utilized in the life-saving HemCon wound care solutions. Simon was named by the US Army as a Top Ten Invention Award recipient in 2005 for invention & development of the HemCon Chitosan Bandage. He further won the Tibbets Award in 2007 for development of the HemCon Bandage and was the finalist in Australia Eureka Awards 2012 for development of the novel co-polyurethane-siloxane Elast-Eon. Dr. McCarthy, a corporate officer, has a broad mandate in all scientific and technological matters across the company reporting directly to the President and CEO.
Brian H. Clare, Vice President of Operations & Technology:
Dr. Brian H. Clare brings 10 years of experience in Senior Scientific and Director-level positions across a diverse range of product applications (Medical Device, Clean Energy, Green Consumer Goods, and Industrial Polymers). Brian has served as Principal Investigator on federally-funded research grants, and is a co-inventor on 4 issued patents and 8 peer-reviewed journals in the areas of chemistry, materials science and biologically active surfaces. He holds a BS in Chemistry from Penn State University and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin.
Máire Ní Beilliú, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs & Quality Systems:
Dr. Máire Ní Beilliú was initially part of the HemCon Europe group before relocating to Portland, Oregon headquarters. Dr. Ní Beilliú had held the senior management position of Director of Operations Research and Development. She joined the European company in 2007. She is responsible for the regulatory component of our medical device business, with additional responsibility for directing a highly-trained U.S.-based quality operation. Her firsthand knowledge of the HemCon subsidiary in the Czech Republic supports the company expand its international footprint. A trained scientist, with a Ph.D. in biochemistry and invaluable experience on the European side of our operations, Maire is uniquely qualified to establish the policies HemCon requires to thrive in an increasingly regulated worldwide industry.
Matt Ferguson, Director of Sales:
Matt Ferguson joined Tricol in 2016. He brings over 20 years of Direct Sales, Channel Sales, and Strategic Account Management experience in the Medical Device, Healthcare, Financial Services, and Software Technology industries. He is responsible for new business development worldwide, as well as managing and growing Tricol’s existing US and International partners in the Hospital and Military/EMS channels.
Matt holds a BS in Communications from the University of Oregon.
Michelle Sells, Director of Planning and Administration:
Michelle Sells joined the company in 2007. She was appointed Director of Planning and Administration in 2014 and is responsible for human resources strategy, planning, staffing, and talent management, as well as compensation and benefits, employee relations, leadership development and training, and employee assistance programs. She also oversees of a variety of corporate-wide administrative areas including, contract management, travel, security, IT and other business support services.
Prior to joining Tricol Biomedical, Ms. Sells supported both established organizations and entrepreneurial ventures helping them through their stages of growth and stabilization, and has cross-functional experience ranging from operations, marketing, business development and project management.
Radim Dvořák, Ph.D., Technical Director:
Dr. Radim Dvořák has over 15 years of experience with cellulose derivatives, specifically with micro‐dispersed oxidized cellulose (m.doc). He is a co-inventor of the cold process for the manufacturing of micro‐dispersed oxidized cellulose, an expert in nanofiber preparation and characterization, and a co‐inventor of superfine chitosan fiber. Radim oversaw the m.doc product transfer from product development to the production plant and now oversees the European operations supporting manufacturing and testing of the m.doc platform and products.
Radim is co‐inventor of 6 issued patents around m.doc technology and has brought several m.doc products to both the over-the-counter and professional markets. Radim and his team, located in Tiŝnov, Czech Republic, partner with the Tricol US development project team on execution and delivery of new products. He holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Pardubice, Czech Republic.
